Speaking of Guidelines

On a recent Poddy they talked about setting personal guidelines and giving yourself pep talks, this got me thinking about the guidelines I have for myself but have never put much thought to. I have guidelines for eating, exercise, and daily habits, weekday guidelines and weekend guidelines. These guidelines help me bring balance to my THM Journey, while still allowing me freedom. Since these are guidelines and not rules I never feel restricted by them, and sometimes don’t follow them all, but if I find that it’s becoming the normal to not follow them I will have a talk with myself to get back on track.


Guidelines should be helpful in your journey, not make it more complicated. They can be small or big, and should be relevant to you. You may be able to use some of my guidelines and others may not fit your life.

What are these guidelines, well here they are


Every day eating guidelines

  • Veggies in most meals

  • Oatmeal at least 3 times a week

    • 4 additional E meals or snacks

  • 5 FP meals or snacks

  • Salmon 1 meal (usale wed.)


Weekday eating Guidelines Mon- Thur

  • No eating after 6:30pm ( I eat breakfast around 6 am so it may seem early but its no more than 12 hours of an overnight fast)

  • Limit Dairy and heavy S meals

    • Keep them to midday when having them

  • NO alcohol ( when I have this on the weekends it is a low sugar wine, hard stelzer, or Crooks & Markers. Alcohol is a personal choice that may slow weight loss)


Other health related guidelines

  • 12000 steps a day

  • Exercise 20 minutes 6 days a week

  • Drink 90 oz of water a day

  • Do one relaxing thing a day



Some of these things may seem extreme to some or not enough to others but these are the limits that work for me. Each person should look at their lifestyle and needs for the season of life they are in and set their own guidelines. These guidelines should be looked at often and adjusted to fit your needs as they change.
