Thanksgiving is almost here, this could bring fon stress for some THM's. I am here to help with that, first and foremost remember this is just one day one meal it will not be the end of your journey to trim and health. You are in control of how you face this day just like any other day, whether you are cooking the meal, bringing a dish to share, or a guest for a meal another prepared, you have the ability to decide what you put on your plate and into your mouth.
Let's start with one easy choice at a time. Ask yourself, Do I want to stay on plan though Thanksgiving?
If the answer is no then make that choice without quilt, enjoy your meal and jump back on plan either in 3 hours or the next morning. Make a plan with a cut off time to stop eating the off plan foods, and plan your first on plan meal. A Deep S meal or 2 would be a great way to help your body come back to the THM way.
If you answered yes, you want to stay THM all the way through Thanksgiving, start by deciding am I going to Have an S, E, or XO Thanksgiving.
An S Thanksgiving example plate
Turkey, Mashed Cauliflower with gravy, low carb Green Bean casserole, sugar free cranberry sauce, low carb bun and low carb salad, don't forget that lovely low carb pumpkin pie
An E Thanksgiving plate example
Light meat turkey, Sweet potato casserole, steamed broccoli, FP coleslaw, sugar free cranberry sauce, and sprouted wheat bun. A nice E apple pie to finish off the meal.
An XO Thanksgiving plate example
Turkey, mashed potatoes with gravy, low carb Green Bean casserole, sugar free cranberry sauce, sprouted wheat bun, and low carb salad. Enjoy a sugar free pie of your choice S, E or XO for deserts.
These are just examples there are some many options available to make your favorite THM friendly, a great place to start looking is the THM holiday recipe collection. https://media.trimhealthymama.com/wp-content/uploads/sites/4/2019/11/23103525/The-Classic-THM-Holiday-Recipe-Collection.pdf
Or use google just add the THM in front of your favorite side or dessert and you will find lots of options, there are so many wonderful THM bakers out there that share their recipes.
Are you going to get the day off from cooking and have someone else preparing Thanksgiving for you? Please don't stress enjoy the break from cooking , give yourself grace and make the best choices with the food available. Remember it is only one meal enjoy the fellowship with friends or family, and either pick the food that's on plan or close to plan, or enjoy what looks good and jump back on the THM train at your next meal. NO Guilt, No Shame, just grace and understanding.
As for me it looks like I will be cooking Thanksgiving for my family, I will be enjoying a XO, all the food made will not be on plan as Jason has requested traditional stuffing. There are many THM stuffing recipes but this is one of the few times a year I make stuffing so I will give him the traditional one he wants. I plan on everything else being THM, even the pies.
